Born in Avilés, Asturias in the north of Spain in 2003, Pelayo Fernández came to Barça in the summer of 2019 from CD Quirinal, the club where he played four seasons after beginning his footballing journey at Sporting Gijón.
With the Barça U19 squad the centre back became a valuable member of the squad, winning the double in the 2021/22 season: the league and the Champions Cup.
Pelayo comes from a football family as his father, Sergio Fernández, played professionally for Sporting Gijón, Celta, Zaragoza and Osasuna.
Pelayo Fernández is a strong centre back with pace and technique with the ball at his feet. He is versatile enough to also be able to play as a defensive midfielder.
