COACH
An important figure in FC Barcelona's history, the Mexican is mainly remembered for his seven seasons as a first team player. He joined the Club in the summer of 2003 and remained until 2010, a period in which he won two Champions Leagues, four LaLigas, and one Copa del Rey, among other titles.
Rafa Márquez became a legendary defender for Barça, forming a great partnership with Puyol at the heart of the defence. Nicknamed El Káiser, he also amassed the third most international caps ever with 148, and shares the record of participating at five different World Cups.
After retiring from professional football in 2018, Márquez became Sporting Director for Atlas Fútbol Club in Mexico, his last club as a player. He remained in the position for a year before he took on a youth coaching role for Real Sociedad Deportiva Alcalá, a club in Alcalá de Henares in the Community of Madrid.
Recognising the Mexican's knowledge of the Club's philosophy and structure, he was entrusted with a youth development role for the 2022/23 season, with the aim of bringing through young players for the first team.
