Pedri: 'The fans deserve a semi-final'

Canary Islander views Tuesday's second leg against PSG as one of the most important matches of his career so far

Pedri marked his return from injury by providing a fantastic assist for Raphinha to score the equaliser at Parc dels Princes six days ago, and now he is looking forward to the return leg against PSG knowing that "the fans deserve a semi-final. We have been hoping for too long to give them nights like this.”

Barça have a 3-2 lead and home advantage, but even so, the Canary Islander insists "that doesn't guarantee anything. But I know that the fans will be behind us from the moment we take to the field and we'll give everything we have got."

Most important game

Pedri describes this Champions League game as the most important of his entire career at FC Barcelona, and says the only match he could possibly compare to this one was the Euro 2020 semi-final that he played for Spain against Italy.

"I was so looking forward to playing again in Paris and Cadiz" he adds. "Hope and desire overcame everything. When I go onto the pitch I can't help thinking how lucky I am that I no longer have to worry about the injuries that I've had."

Out to win

"We need to go out with the mentality that we don't have kind of advantage. PSG will be bringing everything they've got, especially knowing their manager."

Where he know the team needs to improve is in the way they react after conceding goals. Indeed, in Paris, no sooner had PSG scored than they nabbed a second in a flash. "We need to work on that aspect" he agreed. "The good thing is that in Paris we were able to turn things around despite going behind. We deserve a lot of credit for what we did."

And despite the two goals conceded in the first leg, Pedri has nothing but praise for the defence, which has just kept its sixth clean sheet in a row in La Liga. Defence is again likely to be a key factor on Tuesday night.
