Futsal close to claiming first Champions League of the season
The first European success of the 2023/24 season could be close. The FC Barcelona futsal team are in the final of the 2023/2024 UEFA Futsal Champions League where they will face Palma Futsal for this season's trophy.
Let's not forget that Barça Women are through to the final of the UEFA Women's Champions League and that the Barça handball side are in the Final Four of their Champions League tournament which will be played in Cologne. Germany. Also, the FC Barcelona basketball team are just a game away from the Final Four of the Euroleague in Berlin.
Futsal up for trophy in Armenia
On Sunday the FC Barcelona futsal team take on Palmas in the Dermichyan Arena SCC in Yerevan, Armenia. An exhilarating 5-4 win over Sporting in the semi-final has given them them the chance to add the trophy to their collection for the fifth time in their history after wins in 2012, 2014, 2020 and 2022. Furthermore, it would be the Club's first European trophy of the season.
Barça Women in the Champions League final
The other FC Barcelona team close to European glory is the FC Barcelona Women's football team. After defeating Chelsea in the semi-final, Jonatan Giráldez's team will face Olympique Lyonnais in the final which will be played on 25 May in San Mamés in Bilbao. A fifth final in six seasons and a fourth in a row await the women's team as they defend the trophy they won in last season's final against Wolfsburg.
Handball team in to the Final Four
Carlos Ortega's team will travel to Cologne, Germany for the Final Four of the EHF Champions League on 8 and 9 June. After defeating PSG in the quarter-finals, the team have reached the final stage of the competition for the sixth season in a row where they will face the challenge of Aalborg, Magdeburg and Kiel.
Basketball team a game away
The Palau Blaugrana will be the venue for the deciding game of the Euroleague quarter-final play off against Olympiacos. With the tie all square at 2-2, the all important fifth meeting comes on Wednesday 8 May and will decide who goes forward to the Final Four in Berlin to be played from 24 to 26 May.
Three Champions League in a season, a record
FC Barcelona still have the chance to take four European titles this season and if they can do it, it will be a record. In the 2014/15 season Barça won three European titles, the football team winning the final against Juventus in Berlin, the handball team taking victory in Cologne and the roller hockey side beating Bassano del Grappa in their final.
First up are the futsal team on Sunday with the chance to claim a Champions League trophy for the Club and put Barça's name back on top in Europe.
